I slid into product marketing sideways. My boss at the time told me that all the stuff I was getting really jazzed about like positioning, messaging, and audience definition wasn’t really content marketing at all. Rather, it was a whole job called “product marketing.” I jumped ship and haven't looked back.
Since then, I’ve been trundling along at startups, focusing on helping early-stage companies hone their messaging and tie their product to outcomes their customers care about. I love figuring out how to translate product features into value, then testing again and again until you find that little crack that makes people go ‘cripes that’s cool!'
